The Work Readiness & Career Planning Skills Competency Award enables students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to develop the basic planning, time management, technology, communication & self-advocacy skills necessary to enhance their ability to secure and maintain competitive integrated employment. It is a gateway into other noncredit and credit programs, helping students develop the work readiness skills they need to qualify for additional educational & vocational opportunities

What Courses or Activities it takes to earn this badge

Vocational Exploration and Planning | DSPS NC001 Designed to provide students who have disabilities with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for vocational exploration and planning. Topics include, but are not limited to: developing vocational awareness; identifying preferences; creating and implementing a person-centered vocational plan; and building related communication, technology and time management skills.
Self-Advocacy Skills for Educational and Vocational Settings | DSPS NC002 Designed to provide students who have disabilities with the self-advocacy skills necessary to direct the course of their own lives in educational and vocational settings. Topics include, but are not limited to: defining self-advocacy and related terms, the disability rights movement, self-assessment, and creating and implementing a self-determination plan.
