ESL Intermediate Grammar and Composition, Certificate of Competency (Noncredit)

A two-course certificate of competency in noncredit English as a Second Language (ESL). The Grammar and Composition-Intermediate certificate courses are designed to support English Language Learners and adult immigrants in developing writing and speaking skills with special emphasis on the correct use of grammar, sentence structure, organization, and mechanics of written English.

What Courses or Activities it takes to earn this badge

  1. Successfully complete NC009, the ESL Intermediate High Grammar course at the SBCC Noncredit English as a Second Language program.

  2. Successfully complete NC046, the ESL Writing for Academic Success course at the SBCC Noncredit English as a Second Language program.

  3. Identify and correctly use grammatical elements including gerunds, infinitives, and the present perfect tense in conversation. Apply writing skills to convey ideas in an appropriate format. Use the process of pre-writing, draft version, self-editing and final version of written work.
