ESL Level 1, Certificate of Competency (Noncredit)

A three-course certificate of competency in noncredit English as a Second Language (ESL). Level 1, beginning low courses are designed to support English Language Learners and adult immigrants in developing the vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills needed for living and working in the United States and in the local community. This contextualized ESL course integrates academic and employability skills.

What Courses or Activities it takes to earn this badge

  1. Successfully complete NC01A in the SBCC Noncredit English as a Second Language program

  2. Successfully complete NC01B in the SBCC Noncredit English as a Second Language program

  3. Successfully complete NC01C in the SBCC Noncredit English as a Second Language program

  4. Speak and write simple sentences using the present tense including the verb “to be.”  Orally respond to personal information questions in the present tense, (using who, what, where, when, and how).  Write simple sentences in proper word order including appropriate capitalization.  Demonstrate listening skills to follow directions related to simple workplace needs.
